Good Morning,

Last night at our newly started India Home Monday session at Satyanarayan Temple had a unique ‘storytelling’ hour. Thanx to our Program and Budget Director Kavita Shah who introduced and opened the topic with her interesting story following by some of our members wo told their interesting stories as well. We enjoyed the grand opening day with pride along with tasty delicious lunch…
Well, my true story was based on “we are all equal” which conveyed the idea that all human beings possess inherent worth and dignity, and should be treated with respect and fairness. In short, our India Home is he classic example of the same…
My story goes like this: Mehmood Ali, popularly known as Mehmood, was a legendary Indian actor, singer, director, and producer, primarily recognized for his comedic roles in Hindi films. One fine morning Mehmood called us and asked me “Kulkarnibha, I am comedian actor Mthmood speaking.I would like to see my mother Leelatai (actress Leela Chitnis). Since you knew her, would you please take me to her, I want to meet her. I am here in Pennsylvania”…
We arranged Mehmood’s visit to Leelatai who was bed ridden in nursing home in Connecticut. In fact, health wise Mehmood himself was not in a good shape as well. Anyway, due to old age and memory loss, Leelatai could not recognized Mehmood. But, Mehmood didn’t give up. He started singing Bombay Talkies Jhoola, Kangan and Bandhan’s songs sung by Leelatai herself in the films…
Guess what, slowly Leelatai got her memories back and she also started singing songs with Mehmood. Mehmood was so happy and kissed her and said, “you are so sweet Laaltai, you made my day. Kulkarnisab, आज मुझे आपने हजयात्रेका पुण्य दिया. आज मै सचमुच ‘हाजी’ बन गया…

Connecticut… 3) Jayant with Mehmood and Leela Chitnis at Nursing Home in Connecticut…
Summary: Though Mehmood was muslim he used to celebrate ‘Ganesh Festival, Christmas and Ramadan’ at his farm house in Bangalore, India. He also used to speak most of the Indian languages very fluently. The point here is. in our India Home we all are treated equal under one roof with care and needed benefits at no cost…
Please Stay Connected…
Thanx with regards,
Jayant & Veena.
